Love Laid Down – A Good Friday Devotion

Greater love has no one than this: to lay down one’s life for one’s friends.
—John 15:13

On this sacred Friday, we remember the greatest act of love the world has ever known. Jesus didn’t just talk about love—He demonstrated it. He carried the weight of our sins on His shoulders and laid down His life so we could rise into new life.

This wasn’t forced. It wasn’t expected. It was chosen.
He saw us—flawed, broken, searching—and called us friends.
He chose the nails. He chose the cross. He chose you.

This kind of love changes everything. It doesn't demand we have it all together. It invites us as we are and offers us a new name—redeemed.

So today, pause. Breathe in grace. And remember:
The cross was never a symbol of shame—it’s proof that love always has the final word.


Jesus, thank You for this day of remembrance. Thank You that even in the darkness of Good Friday, we see the light of Your love shining through. You laid down everything for us. Help us live in a way that honors Your sacrifice—not just with words, but with lives poured out in love and obedience.

Teach us how to love like You do. Teach us to serve, to surrender, and to never forget what You endured to call us free. Let our hearts be softened and stirred today, not just in sorrow—but in awe.

We love You, Lord. Thank You for loving us first.
